Frequently asked questions
Can I enrol in Brand Registry with a pending trademark?
Amazon accepts registered trademarks, and pending applications from a subset of trademark offices and through its IP Accelerator programme. The rules differ by store and change from time to time, so we check Amazon’s current list for your store before you apply.
Will my Indian trademark work for amazon.com?
No. Trademarks are territorial. For the US store you need a trademark from the USPTO; for amazon.co.uk, the UKIPO; and so on.
What kind of trademark does Amazon accept?
A text-based mark (your brand name), or an image-based mark that contains words, letters or numbers. A pure symbol with no letters usually isn’t enough on its own.
Do I need a US attorney for a USPTO filing?
Yes. Applicants based outside the US must be represented before the USPTO by a US-licensed attorney. We file through US-licensed attorney partners, so you don’t have to find one yourself.
How much does Brand Registry cost?
Enrolling in Amazon Brand Registry is free. What you pay for is the trademark itself: the office’s official fee and our professional fee.
What is the verification code step?
After you apply, Amazon sends a verification code to the contact listed on the trademark record. When we are the correspondent, we forward the code to you straight away so your enrolment isn’t held up.
Which classes should I file for?
The class that covers the products you sell, for example class 25 for clothing or class 3 for skincare. Our class finder suggests classes in plain language, and a trademark attorney confirms them before filing.
Can I join Amazon Brand Registry with a pending trademark?
For many offices, yes. Amazon decides which pending applications it accepts; we confirm for your store before filing.
Which trademark do I need for amazon.com?
A trademark filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Should I file a word mark or a logo for Brand Registry?
A word mark in your brand name is usually the best first filing, because it covers the name in any style.
Is Amazon Brand Registry free?
Yes. Amazon does not charge for Brand Registry; you pay only for the trademark filing.
